Location and Conference Venue

The 2009 conference will take place in the City of York in the UK (www.visityork.com). York is one of the most frequently visited cities in Europe for its medieval buildings, Viking heritage and the surrounding countryside. York Minster is the largest cathedral in Northern Europe and contains much or Europe’s medieval stained glass in its windows. York has a vibrant life and is a popular shopping destination.

The conference will take place in the modern Park Inn Hotel, which sits on the banks of the river Ouse in the centre of the City. It has been refurbished in 2008 and has a high interior specification. Regarding hotel accommodation, a certain number of rooms is available at the conference hotel for a special rate of £89/night . Please make your reservation directly with the hotel until 29th July 2009 (keyword: IRCOBI 2009). Alternatively contact Visit York (www.visityork.com) if you need assistance in finding suitable accomodation.

The conference reception will take place in the City’s National Railway Museum which houses the “Flying Scotsman”, the world’s fastest steam engine and many of the trains used by the Royal Family.

The conference dinner will be held in the wonderful Merchant Adventurer’s Hall which was built in 1350. Please note that the Merchant Adventurers Hall, which we shall use for the dinner, is also registered for weddings although these have to be arranged in advance...
